The Rolex Middle Sea Race is a competitive offshore yacht race, open only to registered crews and vessels that meet strict international sailing standards. Participation requires advance entry and compliance with race regulations, so this is not an event for casual sailors. However, it is designed to be enjoyed by the public as a spectator event. The best vantage points are around the Grand Harbour in Valletta and Birgu, where thousands gather to watch the dramatic start. Spectators do not need tickets – access to waterfront areas is free, though some hotels and restaurants may offer special viewing packages.
